Analyze a CS2 demo in 2D replay
CStonx replays a CS2 demo on the map radar and measures what happens: positions, kills, grenades, bomb, buys and key moments. Every tool separates what is read from the demo from what is calculated, so you can review a match without guessing.
What you need: Approved account, signed in with Steam
Where the demo comes from
- Your Valve matches: Premier, Competitive and Wingman matches imported with your Steam codes offer Generate replay while Valve still keeps their demo.
- A file or a link: the Import a demo page accepts a
.demor.dem.bz2file up to 400 MB, or a Valve demo link. Nothing is kept: the demo is deleted after the analysis and the replay only lives in your tab.
The 2D replay
The replay plays the match from above: positions, kills, grenades and bomb, plus HP, money, equipment, flashes and damage when the demo contains them. A timeline per round, a Focus mode to follow one player and keyboard shortcuts let you move fast. Data missing from the demo stays missing: nothing is made up.
Understanding a round
- Round analysis: balance of power at the displayed moment (advantage, clutch, retake), each side’s buys compared with a simple rule, a side’s habits across several rounds.
- Key moments and economy: opening duels, trades, bomb plant and each side’s money over the match.
- Layers: position heatmaps, paths and a side’s simulated radar, flagged as an approximation.
- Annotations and clips: draw on the radar, loop a passage and share the link with your team.
Compare two rounds
The round comparator shows two rounds side by side or overlaid, synced on the start, first contact, plant or a chosen event, with a manual offset. Use it to review a good execution against a failed one, or the same retake played twice. The gaps shown are measurements, not mistakes.
Search all your demos
Search finds a moment across all your analyzed demos: your CT rounds on a map, your lost AWP opening duels, your flashes on at least two opponents, your won retakes on a site. Type a sentence (“my CT rounds on Inferno”): the understood filters show up and can be fixed, then Open starts the replay just before the action. Synergy, timings and sequences round out the analysis.
Example: review a failed execution
Open the round
From your history or a dropped demo, pick the round in the timeline.
Find the smoke
Ctrl+K then
smoke: the replay stops just before the throw, the card gives its duration and the players it hit.Isolate the passage
Loop the site entry and show the position heatmap.
Compare and share
Open the comparator with a successful round, then share the annotation with your team.
Limits
- Valve only keeps demos for a limited time: after that, the replay can no longer be generated.
- FACEIT matches are not imported automatically; their demo can be dropped in the Import a demo page.
- The simulated radar ignores walls, and bots and spectators are not shown.
- Analyses are limited per day to keep the service available to everyone.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need an account to analyze a CS2 demo?#
- Yes: analysis requires an account signed in with Steam and approved during the beta. See Sign-in and access.
- Is my demo stored on the server?#
- Not for a demo dropped in the Import a demo page: it is deleted after the analysis and the replay disappears when you leave the page. Replays of your imported matches stay attached to your history.
- Can I analyze a FACEIT demo?#
- Yes, by dropping its
.demfile in the Import a demo page. FACEIT matches are not imported with a demo. - How do I compare two CS2 rounds?#
- Open the comparator from the Analyze menu, pick both rounds and the sync point (start, first contact, plant). See Analyzing a round.
